Christian Büning and Marcel D’Avis

See you soon in Oberwesel!

Christian Büning grew up in Westphalia. Marcel D’Avis was born right here in Oberwesel. Between them, they’ve lived in a handful of other cities – but they both found their way back to the Rhine. They’re keen hikers who know the value of a good place to stay. Which is exactly why they wanted to create one.

Our house »Krönchen Oberwesel«

The cellar dates back to around 1850. Everything above it has been rebuilt, repurposed, and reinvented more times than anyone can count. The building has been a grocery store, a haberdashery, and a tea shop. In 1967, it merged with half of the neighbouring house. In 2019, it was completely renovated and reopened as a modern guesthouse right in the middle of Oberwesel’s historic old town.

One more thing: our apartments don’t have TVs. Seriously, not a single one. But we do have fast Wi-Fi. And there’s a whole UNESCO World Heritage site right outside the door.

Hiking:
We can’t recommend the vineyard walks highly enough. The Middle Rhine valley offers some spectacular viewpoints and jaw-dropping perspectives. Most of the trails are manageable in regular walking shoes. The Oelsbergsteig is the exception – a head for heights is helpful there.

Sport:
The Middle Rhine Valley is brilliant for cyclists, hikers, and water sports enthusiasts. E-bikes can be hired right in Oberwesel, or you can book a guided cycling tour. → www.mittelrhein-biketouren.de

Restaurants and Wine Bars:
Oberwesel and the surrounding villages have a great selection of restaurants and estate taverns – all personally tested and recommended by us. Don’t miss the Straußwirtschaften: these are small seasonal wine bars run directly by local winemakers, usually with simple, hearty food to go with the wine. Genuine and unpretentious.

With Kids:
The Middle Rhine has the highest concentration of castles anywhere in the world – perfect for anyone who wants to bring a bit of medieval history to life. The Loreley Bobsled Run is open daily during the season. There’s also a wildlife park and swimming pools nearby.

Riesling:
Always dry, honey!
